Troop 370 Parent Meeting Minutes
April 7, 2008
Parents Attending: Jamie Dillon, Lori Helmer, Carl Patow, Jeff Weaver, Laura Weaver, Angie Smith Harris, Greg Becker, Kathy Farr, Joleen Zastera, Mike Zastera, Jim Vlasic, Deb Vlasic, Jennine McGee, Jay Biedny, Tim Lenker, Margie Sullivan, Dean Malotky, Shari Williams, Kay Shapiro, Courtney Freeman, Donna Griswold, Caroline Hermes, Patrick Jerich, David Straight, Philip Jenkins, Laxmi Reddy, Radhir Reddy, Brian Nash, Monica Gloege.
•1. Treasurer's Report. Total assets $20,227.78. Scout account total $7,313.61. Overall balance $12,914.17. Joleen anticipates that we will begin to see Summer Camp Expenses as were approved at the last Parent Meeting.
•2. Quartermaster's Report. Craig Hamilton was not in attendance and therefore there was no report.
•3. Camping Update. Permission slips are due tonight for the April campout. Jim Vlasic has obtained the permits for all campouts through the remainder of 2007. Planning for the April campout will take place on Monday, April 14. Margie and Jamie explained the campout process and what the new scouts and their parents should expect. The activity for this campout will be orienteering. The May campout will be Voyager Bay and will be a work weekend.
•4. Scoutmaster Report. Don reported that the March campout at William O'Brien was a success, even with the cold weather. The April campout will continue to work on FastTrack for the new scouts and include Orienteering and Geocaching. There is an Eagle Preview on Tuesday, April 8. Flyers were available at the Parent Meeting. The Gathering of Eagles Dinner will take place at the end of April. Pack 215 has requested the troop's assistance with their campout May 16 through 18 at Lake Rebecca. They intend to do 3 stations. Jamie has volunteered to lead a bicycle repair station. Other stations will include knots, cooking and any other ideas. Finally Isle Royale is set and planning is beginning for Nothern Tier 2009. Please provide a $40 deposit if you are interested in joining this trip.
•5. High Adventure Update. Jim Vlasic has confirmed the Isle Royale high adventure trip and has 6 confirmed attendees. There are slots available for 3 additional people. Please contact Jim Vlasic if you have an interest in attending. As Don mentioned a Northern Tier trip is being planned for 2009. Additionally, a trip to the Appalachian Trail is being planned for summer 2009.
•6. Advancement and Merit Badges. Caroline reported that the Blue cards are due the 1st week of June. We only had 7 merit badges and no advancements at the last Court of Honor.
•7. Records. Kathy Farr had nothing to report
•8. Service Projects. Jay Biedny reported that the next service project is Scouting for Food. This project is being coordinated by Deb Vlasic. The Troop is asking for 100% scout participation (unless a conflict exists for sports or other activities). Plan to meet at Pax Christi on April 26 at 10 a.m. with the anticipation that the scouts will be done at noon. We will need some adult drivers to assist with this event.
•9. Roundtable & Order of the Arrow. Jamie reported that Scoutmaster training will be held at Pax Christi on May 3. If you are interested see Jamie. April 12th there will be a University of Scouting event. For this and any other training/events visit northernstarbsa.org. Order of Arrow elections are due by April 15.
•10. Eagle Update. Court of Honor for Brad Dillon and Alex Farr is scheduled for May 4th. Ben Gloege presented his proposal for his Eagle Project. Ben intends on building elevated flower/garden beds at Gale Woods Farms (part of the Three Rivers Park District) to allow for handicap accessible farming/planting. Jonathan Vlasic presented his proposal for his Eagle Project as well. He is intending on improving the benches around the campfire at Voyager Bay Camp.
