Troop 370 Parent Meeting Minutes

July 14, 2008

1.      Summer Camp.  Departure is set for 8:00 a.m. on Sat., July 19 from Pax Christi.  Please arrive on time.  Check-in with Monica Gloege upon arrival.  All medications should be labeled with instructions and placed in a Ziploc bag and given to Monica.  Many Physical forms are still needed (see previous emails).  These need to be turned into Jamie prior to leaving for camp.  The boys will be making a stop at Kelley Farm on the way to camp.  Please send $5.00 for the field trip along with money for lunch (or a bag lunch if preferred).  Additionally, boys should have money for purchasing lunch upon return from camp.  All drivers will be provided with maps on Sat.  If you would like to print a map to camp, they were included in the camp packet.  The boys were provided with a do and don’t bring to camp list.  Keep in mind that inappropriate items may be confiscated.  See camp packet for further information on appropriate items.  Boys and parents were reminded that corrective action will be taken if boys choose to not obey the camp rules.  This is a volunteer run camp and everyone is expected to help.  Upon return to Pax Christi on Sat., July 26, all boys must wait to be dismissed following an assembly called by Jonathan Vlasic.  It is expected that all boys will take some gear home for clean up.  All boys will be required to pass the swim qualification upon arrival at camp.  Please provide Joleen and Margie with any special food requests and Merit Badge supplies ASAP.  All boys should have received their Merit Badge books.  The final list of Merit Badges was provided.  Remember to bring your Merit Badge Book, as well as, you Handbook.  Don will provide the Merit Badge counselors with Blue Cards upon arrival at camp.  If you are participating in the Backpacking Merit Badge ensure that you come prepared with a Backpack with either an internal or external frame.  If you are participating in the Swim Merit Badge, you will need to bring a long sleeved shirt, long pants, belt and shoes that can get wet.

2.      Treasurer’s Report.  Total assets $20,457.90.  Scout account total $4,359.76. Overall balance $16,098.14.  Keep in mind that this total includes summer camp fees.  All new scouts’ accounts are not yet set up and funded.  Additionally, some scouts still owe for summer camp.  Joleen and Margie have T-shirts and Hats from last year that may be purchased for $5.00 each.

New Merit Badge books were purchased prior to scout camp.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to charge the scouts for lost/damaged Merit Badge books. The charge will be $5.00 and charged only after a delinquency list is published.

3.      Camping Update – August Campout will be biking at Jay Cooke the weekend of Aug. 15 thru 17.  Permission slips will be due on Aug. 11.    

4.      High Adventure Update – One spot has opened for the Basic Mountaineering Trip in WA Aug. 10 – 17th.  Anyone 15 years and older interested in joining the trip should contact Pat Hirl directly.  Planning for the Appalachian Trial trip is progressing with some participants already purchasing airplane tickets.

Flag Ceremony.  The Troop will be participating in a flag ceremony for the Eden Prairie Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 15 at 7 p.m.  Those participating should arrive at 6:45 p.m.

5.       Eagle Update – Ben Cutler presented his Eagle project which entails building a fire wood storage center at the River Bend Group Campsite at the Crow Hassan Park Reserve which is part of the Three Rivers Park system.  The project will be constructed August 8 and 9 with August 10 reserved as an alternate date in case of rain.  Please ensure that you complete a permission slip (provided by Ben Cutler and on the website) prior to attending.  Additionally, Ben requests that you bring tools (perhaps electric screwdrivers, hammers, etc.).
