Trofop 370 Parent Meeting Minutes
August 11, 2008
Parents Attending: Jamie Dillon, Lori Helmer, Lauren Weaver, Kathy Farr, Caroline Hermes, Don Richard, Monica Gloege, Margie Sullivan, Joleen Zastera, Mike Zastera, Dan Koster, Jay Biedny, Paul Skoog, Dean Malotky, Larry Galuucci, Pat Jerich, Tom Harris, Shari Williams, Donna Griswold.
1. Scoutmaster Report. Summer camp was a good time. August 25th is the Summer Camp wrap-up meeting. Come with your thoughts for improvements and accolades for all the hard work that was done to make this years’ Summer camp a success.
Sunday was Ian Sullivan’s Eagle Court of Honor. Congratulations, Ian.
August campout is this weekend at Jay Cooke and the activity is bicycling. So, don’t forget to bring your bikes. September campout is at Taylors Falls. That weekend is also the OA conclave weekend.
A High Adventure Crew is at Mt. Baker this week and should be reaching the summit soon.
With summer camp being history, Don’s highest priority is working with the church on storage space. Is there anyone affiliated with the troop who is serving on the church renovation committee?
2. Camping Update. See above for August and September campout information. Please note that drivers for this campout should be prepared to haul gear in their cars as the trailer will be used to transport bikes.
3. Treasurer’s Report. Total assets $15,128.39. Scout account total $4,970.62. Overall balance $10,157.77. There are some outstanding expenses related to Summer camp. Joleen expects that we were approx. $400 short (revenue vs. expenses for summer camp). Participants is Isle Royale owe $147.25 each. The individuals still owing are Drew Hermes, Joe Schliess, Ben Gloege and Alex Patow.
4. Quartermaster Report. Quartermaster was not in attendance, but everyone is reminded to return all gear. Both the gear taken for cleanup following camp and the gear taken to store at home prior to camp.
5. High Adventure Update. As was previously reported, there is a crew currently at Mt. Baker.
Summer 2009: We have 2 crews going to Northern Tier. Space is available, so see Don if you are interested in going. There is also a crew going to the Appalachian Trail. There are 2 spaces available, so see Jamie if you are interested.
We are planning a trip to either Superior Hiking Trail or Porcupine Mountains for MEA weekend 2008 and a BWCA trip for President’s weekend 2009.
Additionally, there was discussion about applying for SeaBase 2010/2011 and Philmont 2010.
6. Advancement. Last day to turn in Blue Cards or have a Board of Review prior to the next Court of Honor is Sept. 15. Please schedule your Board of Review now if you are prepared to have one at this time. Caroline will review the process with all of the Fast Track boys.
Jay discussed the new Merit Badge books. Watch for new merit badge requirements.
7. Records. Kathy asked that the Scouts work to bring their records up to date and noted that detailed records are required for advancement.
8. Recruiting. November 2nd will be a climbing event at the Chanhassen Lifetime Fitness as one of our recruiting events. We will be doing the Knot Cards again this year, but Lauren indicated they are open to suggestions and new ideas. Deb and Lauren will begin contact Packs. They are currently working on obtaining email addresses and phone numbers for the leaders and will be adding the Chanhassen Packs to their list.
They also indicated that they really needed the involvement of all parents.
An additional recruiting event is the Camporee at Murphy’s Landing the weekend of October 10.
9. Service Project. Volunteers are needed for the Eden Prairie Veteran’s Memorial 5K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, September 13. See the flyer on the website for more details.
10. Eagle Update. Jesse Williams reported on his Eagle Project. He will be building a compost bin for St. Andrew’s Lutheran church. Additionally, he will have to build a path to the bin with a shrub/tree screen around the bin. This is to be completed by this fall and he is looking at doing the work the weekend of Sept. 6th.
Ben Cutler completed the work on his project last weekend.
11. Other Business. Leader Training is available please see Jamie if you are interested. The first Roundtable of the year will be on September 4. Finally, Northern Star district will have a booth at the MN State Fair.
