Troop 370 Parent Meeting Minutes

1. Troop Committee/Parent Meetings Transition. As of the end of June, Jamie Dillon will be stepping down as Committee Chair for the Troop. As a result, John Phillipi will be transitioning into this role. As of this month, he will begin taking responsibility for the parent meetings. John announced that Don Richards received Mustang District Scoutmaster of the year for 2009. Additionally, John will be asking that parents provide an update on their potential contributions to the troop. A talent pool survey is forthcoming. Finally, John stated that he is open to input and suggestions.
2. Scoutmaster Report. The January campout was a success (although cold with early morning temperatures of 24 below and 26 below). 10 Boys and 6 Adults attended and participated in Skiing and Snowshoeing. February campout will be at Carver Park this weekend, although the activity may be difficult due to lack of snow. Jim Vlasic will work on alternative activities. High Adventure campout to BWCA will also be this weekend. Scouts will be packing gear tonight. In addition to Don’s recognition, Jim Vlasic received Assistant Scoutmaster of the year award for the Mustang District for 2009. We had 3 scouts achieve Eagle in January and Alex Patow will be having his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on February 22. We have 5 scouts who are close to completion of their Eagle Scout, Mike Hirl, Jake Knecht, Justin Lawrie, Brian Lenker and Jonathon Vlasic.
3. Treasurer’s Report. Total assets $21,094.37. Scout account total $7,782.57. Overall balance $13,311.80. Joleen needs to speak to Mike Hirl and Joe Scheiss regarding their balances. Additionally, there are some individuals who still owe for recharter.
4. Camping Update. Carver Park campout is scheduled for this weekend. The March campout is at Ajawah. Margie and Joleen usually do the cooking with Dave Weaver in charge of the Court of Honor. Reservations have been made by Aaron Nicklay.
5. High Adventure. BWCA campout is this weekend. Northern Tier dates are set and both crews are full. Permits have been received. All individuals will require a passport or ID card. Appalachian Trail trip is on track with the itinerary and dates set. There are one or two openings for this trip. Philmont is scheduled for August 2010 and a Grand Canyon trip is being planned for Summer 2010.
6. Advancement & Merit Badges & Records: Caroline reported that there are not very many Merit Badges which have been earned for the next Court of Honor. She will be accepting Blue Cards and conducting Board of Reviews until March 2. She asked for assistance for a Board of Review that will be conducted today for Will Harris. Caroline has also requested that adults complete the application forms for Merit Badge Counselors. We particularly require individuals to assist with Citizenship of the Community, Citizenship of the Community, Citizenship of the World and Family Life.
7. Recruiting. We have 12 boys joining our troop. 3 from a troop in Chanhassen, 6 from Hayden Hermes troop, Andrew Reitz brother, Tommy Campion and one boy from troop 215. Deb Vlasic proposed that we do a photo collage of the current scouts, new scouts and perhaps adult scoutmasters. Deb will speak with the Troop Historian about completing the project. 8. Quartermaster Report. Greg Becker is the new Quartermaster and he inquired as to the best means of ensure that the new scouts have complete action packers. Many volunteered to help with inventorying the current action packers and identifying supplies in storage that will complete action packers. This will be completed as the weather improves.
9. Service Projects. Jay Biedny reported that 3 scouts assisted with the Cana dinner at Pax Christi. Our boys stayed and cleaned up following the event which was much appreciated. Scout Sunday was this week with a great turnout at Pax Christi.
10. Roundtable. Friends of Scouting forms are due today. We have only $1,000 committed with a goal of $4,200. There are some spring training opportunities. New Leaders Essentials is scheduled for March 5. Scoutmaster training is April 25. Additionally, Jamie will be providing Youth Protection Training will occur prior to Summer Camp. Joleen pointed out that the Mustang District has many activities planned for 2009 in celebration of the Boy Scouts Centennial.
11. Order of Arrow. Nominations are due by April 1, 2009.
12. Activities. We need a coordinator for the February 20, Buck Hill Ski Event. Greg Becker and John Phillipi plan on attending.
13. Eagle Updates. None.
14. Other Business. Jamie will be available to work on Physical Fitness and Snow Sports Merit Badges on February 23. Aaron will begin conducting Summer Camp Meetings on February 23.
