Troop 370 is working on getting an “Art” Display put up at Pax Christi. It would include things like a list of the Eagle Scouts and other scouting related stuff. Northern Tier with Don Richard is June 2009. Appalachian Trail with Carl Patow is all set for June 2009. Devil’s Lake with Matt Kistner is MEA weekend, October 2009. Philmont participants should go on this trip. Joshua Tree with Matt Kistner is Spring Break, March 2010 and has an age limit of 13. Eden Prairie, Minnetonka and Bloomington all have their Spring Break the same week next year. The first 25 participants can go. Since Easter is the first Sunday of Spring Break next year, Dean suggested leaving the day after Easter for Joshua Tree. A large group has the best sites until Wed. of that week. Dean asked for committee approval to make the Joshua Tree reservations. Grand Canyon with Pat Hirl is June 2010 with an age limit of 14 and up. Philmont with John Phillipi is August 2010. A bike trip is being planned for the Fall of 2010. There’s a mountaineering school in the state of Washington which is a possibility for 2010 or beyond. The age limit is 15.Camping Update – Jim Vlasic. The Forestville State Park campout is in two weeks, April 17th – 19th. Jim needs to know by next Monday, who wants to go on the cave tour. He needs to call and make reservations ahead of time. The tour costs $6.00 per person. Any interested scout needs to bring $6.00 along to the campout that weekend. The tour lasts an hour-and-a-half. It’s a nice easy walking tour. The cave is roughly 50 degrees and damp. There will also be fly fishing for those who are interested. Jim needs adults to help with the fly fishing, please contact him if you’re interested. Regular fishing poles and lures are allowed if interested. Anyone 16 years old and up will need an $18 MN fishing license and a $10 trout stamp for fly fishing.General camping information: $15.00 cash only, per person for food paid to Margie Sullivan. One elected scout from each patrol will do the grocery shopping for their own patrol. It is highly recommended that an adult go with their son when he grocery shops, to guide him in making wise food purchases. Preferably no caffeinated pop, especially not Mountain Dew. $15.00 cash for each adult as well. The food magically appears ready for you to eat, with a big thank you going out to Margie Sullivan, head chef. Items each scout will need to bring; sleeping bag, rain gear, water bottle, Class A uniform, a change of clothes and shoes in case they get wet, a stocking cap to wear day and night and layers of clothes, with sweatshirt and coat. Adults will need to bring their own tent, bed roll and personal gear. A backpack is not recommended unless everything can fit in it. They usually are small and get lost. Use one big duffle bag which everything fit into. New scouts need to hand in medical forms before camping.Advancement & Merit Badges & Records – Caroline Hermes. Brian Lenker was recommended for Eagle. Jon Vlasic is scheduled for his Eagle Board of Review this Wed., April 8th. As of the end of March Troop 370 had 30 merit badges. The Mustang District had a total of 120 so our Troop has earned a high percentage of those badges.New Scouts – John Phillipi. New Scouts need to turn in scout registration forms, registration fees and medical forms as soon as possible.Recruiting – Lauren Weaver. We originally had 12 new scouts signed up to join in March but we received one more so we’re at 13. A reminder; scouts can invite their friends to join our troop at anytime during the year or at any age. New scouts don’t have to be in 5th grade to join and they don’t have to wait until recruiting time in March.Quartermaster Report – Greg Becker. Action Packers are big containers which house the necessary items a patrol will need for cooking and clean up while camping. A patrol is assigned a specific action packer and their patrol name is to be placed on the side. The items inside should include dishes, pans and four replenishable items which are paper towels, plastic garbage bags, dish soap and matches. Parents need to help keep these items stocked when grocery shopping. After a weekend of camping, one particular scout or family may be asked to take home an action packer. When you do, take everything out and clean it right away, don’t let it sit for a week. Bring the action packer back to the church for the next Monday meeting. If your scout is asked to bring home a tent, take it out and hang it up to air it out and let it completely dry out. Inventory the poles and note if there are any rips so they can be repaired. There are usually two boys to a tent, but when necessary 3.Service Projects – Jay Biedny. Mary Puchalski will be taking over this job for him. Jay is the go to guy for merit badges at summer camp. He will be contacting both scouts and adults regarding this prior to Summer Camp. Pax Christi Church partners with St. Steven’s Church. St. Steven’s has some landscaping needs that would be good for Eagle Scout projects. Scouting for Food will be collected on Sat., 4/25 between 9am and Noon. Our boundaries for this event are between 169 & 212 and Anderson Lakes Parkway and Pioneer Trail. Last year we had a conflict with Cub Scout Pack 348 overlapping in our area. David Straight will speak to Pack 348 leaders about this. Jay has the bags to hand out. Court of Honor is later that same day and doesn’t conflict.Leader’s Training– John Phillipi. Leader’s training on Sat. 4/25. Some of it will take place at Pax Christi. RSVP’s are due on 4/18. Check the web link for more info. On April 18th Scoutmaster Bucky will be offering 9 different merit badge opportunities. Dan Patch, Merit Badge Madness will be offered at the Burnsville High school. Nuclear Engineering, Art and Genealogy are offered. Order of Arrow selections are due April 30th. Eagle Court of Honor is 4/25. We need to have more scouts attend, it’s important. Possible candidates for Eagle Review for Life Scouts need to get their names in. The Valleyfair campout is May 15th – 17th.Summer Camp Update – Aaron Nicklay. The Voyager Bay camp packet has been updated. Aaron will complete the revisions and have copies sent to everyone. The due dates and forms are included in the packet. The camp planning process: We need to firm up what people want to do at camp. Tom Harris is bringing his boat up again for motor boating and water skiing merit badges. Aaron asked for committee approval for an additional $1,500 to be spent on equipment purchases. $750 - $850 for climbing equipment and cables to expand the course. We also need a new ballistic curtain for the archery range. Troop 123 will not share their curtain. There is a Voyager Bay camp account of $4,000 - $6,000 used for projects for “the good of all”. We are the only Troop who uses the climbing course and we would like it left that way. We will again have a working weekend, come one, come all. A 2nd working weekend will be for adults only when heavier equipment is brought in. Donations are welcome and needed. We are always on the lookout for old decks, we use the wood. Nick got a hold of a cable for a suspension bridge. Troop 123 will go up late June but beginning 2010 they will be going in July. Troop 347 goes up late July early August and 254 goes up with 347. We will need to vacate Summer Camp quickly on our last day. Another group will be arriving that Saturday. Camping meetings with Aaron will be held the last meeting of the month.Eagle Scout Project – Jeremy Biedny. Jeremy is 14 years old and putting together his Eagle Scout project. He will be asking for help to remove invasive plant species on the grounds of Pax Christi. He has already spoken with Mr. Rennisch, the operations director at Pax. The project will consist of three parts. 1) Education – a community seminar at Pax with an environmental scientist speaking. Jeremy will place info. in the church bulletin and will pass info. along to cub scout packs. 2) Organizing volunteers into crews of 5–10 volunteers with leaders to remove the invasive plants. 3) Make a map for Pax showing what has been removed and where. Most of the work will take place along the backside of the lake and the Pax side of the lake. There’s buckthorn and a variety of other species. If we have time we could expand onto city property and clear that as well. Would need prior city approval.Reminder – John Phillipi. Next week’s troop meeting will again be at the Preserve Barn. Court of Honor is 2pm at Pax on Sat. 4/25 immediately after Scouting for Food.
