John Northrup said that the boys who are working on the camping merit badge need 20 more nights in order to meet the merit badge requirements. Scouts should see John and give him their numbers.
Scoutmaster’s Report – Don Richard. Nineteen boys and fifteen adults went on the September campout to Interstate Park, Sept. 11th-13th. There was a lot of climbing with six routes. The OA Conclave is the weekend of Sept. 25th-27th. The Mustang Camporee campout is at Stearns Scout Camp the weekend of Oct. 2nd-4th. Permission slips will be handed out soon. Quartermaster Report – Greg Becker & John Northrup. John wants to create a troop gear inventory. He will need volunteers to count, inspect, repair and replace equipment. It will take place on Saturday October 10th beginning at Noon. John said they also want to create more patrol responsibility. They are thinking about assigning stoves, tents, etc. This will help keep the equipment in better order and provide feedback to Greg Becker or John Northrup. If anyone has any gear at home, please return it. Mike Kistner said the climbing gear has been marked and dated. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has the following retirement dates: 5 years for ropes and webbing, 7 years for harnesses and 10 years for hardware. The ropes are okay but a lot of the gear needs to be replaced. For the October 2009 trip to Devil’s Lake, WI, proposed $150.00 needed for webbing requirement. For the April 2010 trip to Joshua Tree they need $351 for one new rope (5 total) and two more sets of webbing at $150 each. For the August 2010 trip to Philmont they need $200 for carabineers plus two harness set ups. This would allow for three small set ups and three medium set ups. We may need to obtain more helmets for ground crew support at $65 each. The budget for 2011 and beyond should include about $400 in capital required each year. Mike would like to get some volunteers to take “Climb on Safely” which is an on-line training course. There is also a two day climbing certification offered by the BSA. Mike Kistner is authorized to spend $250 before the October trip.
