Parents Meeting 10/11/11
IMPORTANT DATES/THINGS TO KNOW
What We Need to Know About Health Forms: Health forms are required for participation in campouts. There are two formats. The long form is needed for summer camp and High Adventure. The short form (which is the same as the first few pages of the long form) is required for all other campouts. The complete long form requires a medical professional signature the short form does not.
WE ARE MAKING A CHANGE THIS MONTH to how we gather forms and what is required.
Please provide a short form dated 10/17/11 at the next scout meeting. These will be kept on file for a year and used for all regular camping trips except high adventure and summer camp. Even if you have a current and up to date long form from this year’s summer camp provide this form on 10/17. If nothing has changed you can just make a copy of the appropriate pages from your recent long form and change the date. But again, even if you need to fill out a new form, the form does not require a doctor or nurse and is quick to complete. This change is a little extra work up front but will allow for smoother administration going forward so your help is really appreciated. Forms can be found on our website and the BSA websites.
The November campout will be the first campout where this short form requirement will be used. For questions contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and put health forms in subject line.

TROOP BUSINESS
Troop Committee: We had a discussion of date moves and when we would move dates and locations of scout and/or parent meetings. Where we landed was that we would try to stick to a Monday night at 7 pm meeting. This would adjust for major holidays and church closures. One exception is the Halloween 10/29, Monday coming up. That meeting will be moved to Nov 1, Tuesday after Halloween to accommodate that event and to drive efficient collection of popcorn/wreath sales. Thanks everyone for sharing thoughts and showing flexibility.
We are working to add an FAQ to the website for potential scouts and their parents to help them get to know our troop and why we are unique. Check with This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Troop adult volunteer positions still remain open. Please consider taking a position. We need all families to help us make a solid troop. The positions open are available from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Scoutmaster Update: Notes from the PLC meeting are available on our website. They have planned events and campouts through the first half of 2012. Congratulations Tom and the PLC for accomplishing such a big planning task!
PLC and patrol positions are becoming more structured. As boys are elected to these positions and they are used as part of rank advancement it is important that they boys and parents understand what is expected in these roles. If your son is elected to a patrol or troop leadership position, check with Tom if you need information on expectations. Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Treasurer Report: Total cash $13, 281. Boys account total $5,133.11.
Quartermaster: Last month the group voted and approver $100 expenditure to fix brakes on trailer based on an estimate. The actual cost came to close to $700. This expense was not discretionary. Brakes are a must haveJ
Troop has started a more rigorous equipment management process. As part of camping planning the boys has sheets for checking out and checking in the equipment they use. This will help us know who has what equipment and should help us ensure that equipment comes back in good condition.
Supplies are available for patrols to make flags. Each patrol can have a unique patrol flag to use at COH and other events. This should help unify the patrols and drive camaraderie.
High Adventure: Okpi, February 2012, now has a full crew and waiting list.
Northern Tier canoe trip, summer 2012, needs an adult leader. If interested This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Two potential 2013 trips exist. Gettysburg is currently being planned and will soon open for deposits and we are looking for committed attendees. We also have the potential to plan a Philmont trip in 2013 but we need to made reservation this month. Two trips in the summer of 2013 might be difficult so if you are interested in leading or attending either Gettysburg or Philmont it is important for you to make a commitment soon. Attendees: I have stooped publishing attendee lists. I was given some great input from our webmaster not to include first and last names, email addresses, or scout names in these minutes as they are viewable from our public site. We will still take attendance. If you need to know attendees please contact the troop secretary, Jeninne.
