Virtus training is similar to the BSA youth protection training and it is renewable every three years (online) after you have completed the initial training course, which lasts about 3 hours.  As a Troop we have committed to getting as many of our adult leaders through this training as possible.  Several already have the training through their work at the church and others completed the training last fall/winter.

Camping with the Cub Scouts

Good afternoon everyone!

The leaders with Pack 348 here at Pax Christi have asked us for some help and support at their annual pack camping trip May 14th and 15th. I know this is a busy weekend, but if anyone is able to help, it would be very much appreciated. We will need both Scouts and adults to help with this event.

Their program will start at 2pm on Saturday the 14th at Hyland Park in Bloomington with games and activities in the afternoon, and will move to one of the campsites after dinner. They'll set camp, lower the flag, and have a campfire before lights out. Sunday morning will be a pack up and leave schedule.

Help is needed anytime from 2pm to 10pm on Saturday, even if you can only be there part of the time. You are welcome to stay overnight but not required to. You'll be helping to set things up, take things down, work with and talk to the cub scouts, build fires, lead skits for songs at the campfire, and anything else that needs to be done.

If you're interested for part or all of the time, please let me know and I'll put you in contact with the pack leadership ASAP. If you have any questions please contact me.

thanks!

Summer Camp Prep

Good afternoon everyone!

Great campout this weekend, thanks to everyone who helped get us there and back again!

Now that spring break is over for everyone, and we are headed into warmer weather, our preparation for Summer Camp will start to accelerate, both for the Scouts and all of the adults/parents/leaders.

The troop meetings from now till summer camp are very important for all Scouts to attend as we will continue to develop as a team so we are ready for our week at Voyger Bay. We have a long way to go to “Be Prepared”, and we want to make certain that everyone is ready to make the most of this experience.

For the parents, the monthly summer camp planning and parent meetings are outstanding opportunities to get information and be a part of the planning process. I know everyone has beusy schedules but if at all possible, these are two very important meetings to attend. The week of summer camp at Voyager Bay is the highlight of our year, but only because we start now making sure that it's absolutely the best possible experience for everyone.

Just a reminder we will be holding April's summer camp meeting this evening at 7pm in one of the side rooms across from the gym, same time as the Troop meeting. Specifically, we will be discussing the Summer Camp Packet and registration process on the troop website. This will include the list of merit badges we'll be able to offer, and the kinds of activities and extra curriculars we'll be able to support. The summer camp committee welcomes everyone's input on this process.

Hope to see you tonight, and thanks for your support!

Mike K

Adults needed for Campout this weekend!

Hi everyone!

We are in need of a couple additional adults to go camping this weekend, Friday the 22nd through Sunday the 24th, either for the entire time or part of the weekend. No prior experience necessary, and you only need to bring yourself and your personal gear, we will provide the tent, delicious gourmet meals, and entertainment. Cost is $15 for cost of food. Departure is from Pax Christi on Friday around 530pm and the tour will conclude back at Pax around noon on Sunday.

Our campout this month will be at scenic Frontenac State Park just a few minutes south of Red Wing, MN. Overlooking the Mississippi River, the park is known as an outstanding spot for birding, in particular the opportunity to watch bald eagles as they nest and hunt up and down the river. This is an excellent time of the year to visit Frontenac as spring arrives and the forest comes back to life....but early enough so that sight lines are still unobscured by the foliage.

The scouts will be learning and sharpening skills related to land navigation including map and compass, GPS, orienteering, and geocaching.

Our Scoutmaster Mike Z will be leading this expedition and coordinating leadership of the program with the scouts, so your responsibilities will really include supporting Mike, and holding down a camp chair.

Interested parties may apply for these spots by contacting Mike directly at crowdog7@aol.com

thanks and see you at Frontenac!

Meeting news!

This is a quick reminder to everyone that we will have our April Parents' meeting this Monday, April 11. We generally start a few minutes after the boys' meeting gets started so that folks can participate in the opening ceremonies and announcements.

Also, we will be in different rooms for the next few weeks.  We will have the Gym and several rooms on first floor -- 108, 109, and 110.  Other than going upstairs to get our flags, we should all try to stay downstairs.

Hope to see you all on Monday.

Meeting Schedule Reminder!

Friends of Scouting Campaign is Ending!

This coming Monday, March 7th, is our Parent Meeting. It will also be last call for the 2015-16 Friends of Scouting Campaign.

Help the Northern Star Council fulfill its mission of "Preparing young people to be leaders and individuals of strong character by helping them discover the principles of scouting". What a great mission! But, it takes both people and financial resources to make it all work.

Scouting is looking for your support by investing in our future youth. Your tax deductible contributions go toward: * Keeping activity and camping costs down. * Funding for leadership training. * Youth protection and safety training in all programs. * Training materials and tools for volunteer leaders. * Cost of insurance, meeting governmental requirements, admin costs, and more.

I have FOS pamphlets to make it easy to contribute via cash, check, credit card. Just get the pamphlet back to me - hand it, mail it, hand to another 370 leader. I’ll even drive over to your house. And don’t forget many companies provide a matching contribution. Just ask me. I have the list.

See you Monday night March 7th at the next Parent Meeting. Sincerely, Bob R.
