Parents’ Meeting Minutes

January 12, 2015


PLC Report – Erik C, SPL:

  • January camp-out will be at Wild River, potentially 4 to 5 boys

  • Regular Troop meeting will be next Tuesday (January 20) due to MLK holiday

  • Meetings return to Monday nights on January 26.

Scoutmaster Report – Mike K – Scoutmaster:

  • Shooting event was held on Sunday afternoon. Met at church for safety power-point presentation, then traveled to Gander Mountain in Lakeville for shooting on the Virtual Range.

  • One Scout and one parent participated.


  • Wild River campout. January 17-18.

    • Meet at church at 7 am on Saturday, travel to Wild River SP, Snow-shoeing and XC Skiing on Saturday, Down-hill skiing at Wild Mountain on Sunday.  Boys decided to return home on Sunday evening after skiing.

  • Pinewood Derby, Pack 348 – January 31.  The pack has a new service that will be running the races, but Boy Scouts are still needed to assist with scoring and other activities.  For more info check with Drew F.

  • Merit Badge Event at Donaldson – Saturday, February 7 – More info to be posted on the Troop Website

  • Scout Sunday, February 8 – Boys should plan to attend the 11:00 am service at Pax Christi – in uniform, or attend services at their own church in uniform.

  • Winter High Adventure – no interest

  • Klondike Derby

    • February 21 at Bryant Lake Park – one day event.  Troop will participate

  • Biathlon, March 21 – More info to follow

  • Statysis (field trip) – TBD in March – Bob R to coordinate

  • Ajawah, April 24-26 – Cooking competition

  • Philmont 2015  John P. – Currently have a crew of 9 with room for 1 adult and/or 2 to 3 boys

  • Sea Base 2016 – Lottery for 2016 will be open from January 15 to February 15.  If anyone is interested in leading crew, contact Don R.

Advancement – Paul S:

  • Waiting on paperwork for Ryan O Eagle Rank.

  • Austin J is next, followed by John R, Hayden, Blake, and Matt O.

  • Potential date for Parker J. Eagle Court of Honor – February 8 (Phil to work with Lauren to reserve room).

Recruiting – Matt/Aaron:

  • Swimming event at Oak Point – January 30, 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  Letter to go out to recruits.

  • One new Scout will be joining when he turns 11, more to follow (?)

  • Fast Track program to be re-started soon – start planning next Tuesday (1/20)

  • Aaron is also working on an article for the Pax Christi bulletin

  • Drew F. is working on a camping demonstration for the March Pack meeting and the Pack is considering moving its meetings to Monday night – which would better align with the Troop and Venture programs

  • Pack may also be interested in coordinating wreath sales/fund-raising.

Quartermaster – Chris J:

  • Working on updating and improving equipment in the action packers – they may need some small items (utensils, etc.).

  • Will start working on tents next


  • No service projects on the calendar

  • Potential service opportunity at the Cana Dinner for Pax Christi

  • EP foundation is trying to coordinate 10,000 hours of service – we could help.


  • Calendar is up to date.

  • Several new forms have been added to the website, with more updates on the way.

Finance – Tyler T:

  • Troop has $16,969 total: $10, 278 in scout accounts, $6,690 in general fund.

  • Other fundraisers were discussed at roundtable – tick keys and meat sticks – Philmont crew may look into meat sticks to raise funds for 2015 trip.

  • Friends of Scouting (Bob R) – planning to wrap up by March.  Have sent out several notices, will send out one final notice to any that still want to contribute.

  • Fundraising in 2014 had average sales of $591 per scout ($3,476 profit), an increase from $560 per scout in 2013, but total sales were lower due to less total number of scouts selling materials.

Charter Report – Lauren W:

  • Scout Sunday, Pax bulletin, and Cana Dinner already discussed

  • Next Charter meeting is February 9.

Order of the Arrow:

  • Lodge sent out letters to members that did not attend conclave and pay 2015 dues.  Troop does not pay OA dues, so scouts that did not attend conclave can pay OA dues online.


Mustang District –

  • Troop earned Gold for JTE 2.0 in 2014.  Will need to improve leader training for 2015 to maintain gold.
