Ok blog today is less about what happened today and more about overall camp stuff and other random stuff.
In addition to teaching the boys merit badges, there is lots going on at camp, keeping the physical camp maintained. I'm sure I'm only aware of a very small fraction of the things that are actually going on. There is a whole crew devoted to this maintenance. So far these couple days, I've seen a door replaced, many trees trimmed, and new latrines being built. This morning the cooks gave me a complete tour of their NEW smoker. If you read my blog last year, you know about the smoker they acquired, and the awesome pork shoulder they made one surprise dinner. Well they have a new and improved smoker and today is the day. They have probes into the meat; there are fans in the smoker; the laptops are hooked to the probes to turn the fans on and off. They have charts and graphs telling the exact temperature of the smoker, the meat, when the fans turned on and off; when the lid was taken off...did I mention these guys are engineers?
I slept ok last night but woke up before the buzzer and now feel exhausted. Typical for me at camp. I saw at the beach for first period as a second adult for either the fishing MB and/or sailing. They were fun to watch. Both groups went out in boats and the lone fisherboy was excited and commented that it was the first time ever for him in a motor boat. Cool! I'll try to remember to take a picture next time. The sailors also went out but didn't venture too far, just getting the hang of how the boat and sail work. They had a very knowledgeable instructor.
Have I mentioned yet how nice it is to hear the happy boy voices at camp. Especially in the evening when they are just hanging out at their campsite (near mine) and I hear all this chatter and laughter. Last night they had a campfire in their campsite and I'm sure they were excited to be responsible for that.
Our photographer in the past was a dad who isn't in camp this year. So not as many pictures. I'll do my best to include a couple here and there. But for myself it's hard, because I'm in the water at the beach, so not good for taking pictures.
